In animal medicine, snake is a symbol of transmutation. The transmutation of the life-death-rebirth cycle is exemplified in the shedding of a snake's skin. It represents the energy of wholeness, consciousness, and acceptance without resistance. Snake medicine acknowledges that all things are equal in creation, and those things which might be poisonous can be ingested and integrated if one has the proper state of mind. Snake medicine is also the power of creation. It embodies sexuality, psychic energy, alchemy, reproduction, and immortality. Snakes have been used as symbols of healing, wisdom, power, passion, leadership, and connection to the Great Spirit.
For me, this snake represents a transformation of healing and wholeness. Surrounding snake is an array of geometric patterns inspired by indigenous patterns of the Southwest. The patterns are continued onto the edges and this piece is ready to hang.
